Don Messer's Violin features song favourites from Charlie Chamberlain and Marg Osborne as well as some Buchta style dancing.
Audiences will be invited to relive the memories of a much loved era of Canadian music and share in that old time feelin' of Goin to the Barn Dance tonight.
In 1998, Toronto musician and composer Frank Leahy was chosen to inherit the violin (some would say the fiddle!) of one of Canada's most well known performers Don Messer.
For a record-breaking 13 seasons -- from 1956 to 1969 Don Messer was the driving force behind Don Messer's Jubilee, a show that maintains the record for the most popular program in CBC Television's broadcasting history. Since that time, Frank Leahy has released a Juno-nominated recording with CBC Radio and premiered a successful musical production on Prince Edward Island all centered on the engaging Down East sound of Don Messer and The Islanders. In September 2002, Frank Leahy shared the music of Don Messer with Canadians by participating in a national VIA Rail Tour organized in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of CBC Television.
